R. R. Sumathi serves as a Faculty (Dozentin) at LMU Munich and as the vice-head of volume crystals department at Leibniz-Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ), Berlin. She is leading the semiconductor section at IKZ, which focuses its niche research and development in elemental and compound semiconductor materials Dr. Sumathi holds a Ph.D degree from Anna University, Chennai, India in the year 2000 and has also obtained a “habilitation” title from LMU in 2014.

My research primarily focuses on the crystal growth and process optimization of high-performance semiconductor materials for advanced device applications. This includes ultra-high-purity germanium (HPGe) crystals for radiation detectors, SiGe single crystals for quantum computing, wide-bandgap nitride semiconductors such as AlN for deep-UV and high-power devices, and III-V compound semiconductors like GaAs and InP for optoelectronics.
